As well as developing your website, we can also host it for you. At the moment we use a very reliable webhost, nethosted who are based in the UK. However we are looking into the options for “green” web-hosting. The search is on and we haven’t found a perfect solution as yet.

No web host can be really carbon-neutral. Think about all the energy used to power the computers and servers, have staff who drive to work and build the infrastructure. The energy use of the global internet is increasing rapidly as more and more of us go online. “Dump the laptop, get offline and get talking to each other” you might say. Well yes, we should be communicating less online and more in the “real world”, but you can’t dispute the fact that the internet has opened up a vast amount of incredibly useful information to us. So for now we should try to use the internet in a responsible way, whilst being conscious that it might not be here for ever…

But there are some companies who offer data-centres where some of the energy is provided by green energy providers such as Ecotricity and Good Energy; they use solar panels and wind turbines to power their lighting and they have a environmental policy of turning off lights. Perhaps something like this is a medium term alternative.
